Legendary actor James Garner -- star of "The Rockford Files" and "The Notebook" -- has died ... TMZ has learned. Avril Lavigne signed on the dotted line for a huge gig that was supposed to pay her a whopping $500,000 -- but nearly a year after her performance she's still waiting for most of the cash ... so she's suing to get it. Avril filed the lawsuit against 2VLive -- a live concert streaming company -- claiming it agreed to pay her the half million bucks in exchange for promotional appearances, and a concert in New York City on September 25.

NBC boss Robert Greenblatt told reporters at the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour "That six seasons and a movie thing was created by them. I'm surprised they didn't say 10 seasons and a movie." So why did Greenblatt and NBC decide to end Dan Harmon's little show that could? Greenblatt explained "It just didn't make sense for us to have another season of it at that level of audience."
