Google has updated its Glass software, letting you access all of your phone's contacts (as opposed to only 10) on Glass. The top 20 contacts are now available by voice, while the rest can be accessed by swiping. Other changes include a new way to choose how you message a contact — tap one, and you can switch between an email, SMS or Hangouts. Android users will be able to use this new functionality as soon as they get the latest Glass update.

The world's largest PC maker, Lenovo, now sells more smartphones than PCs. In an earnings report issued today, Lenovo revealed the swing to smartphones thanks to sales more than doubling between April and June. Lenovo says its rise in smartphone sales can be attributed to the market shifting from premium handsets to the mainstream, and increasing demand from emerging markets.

U.S. retail sales were unexpectedly flat in July, pointing to some loss of momentum in the economy early in the third quarter. The Commerce Department said on Wednesday retail sales, which had increased 0.2 percent in June, were held back by a second straight month of declines in receipts at auto dealers, as well as weak sales of furniture and electronics and appliances. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast retail sales, which account for a third of consumer spending, increasing 0.2 percent last month. Core sales rose by a revised 0.5 percent in June.



According to government data, as spending got slammed by a tax raise that kicked in from April, the Japanese economy shrank during the second quarter, at an annual pace of 6.8 percent. Japan's gross domestic product, or the total output of goods and services, contracted 1.7 percent during the April-June period from the previous quarter.
