A private survey shows U.S. business hiring surged in June, a sign of stronger economic growth. Payroll processer ADP says private employers added 281,000 jobs last month, up from 179,000 in the previous month. The figure suggests the government's jobs report, to be released Friday, could also show a significant gain from May's tally of 217,000 jobs. The improvement in the ADP figures occurred mostly in professional and business services, a category that includes many higher-paying jobs such as accountants and engineers, but also lower-paid temporary workers.



The stock market rose in early trading after a report showed that manufacturing in the US and China expanded in June, boosting the outlook for global growth.Standard & Poor's 500 index rose nine points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,966. The index is trading above its all-time closing high of 1,962.87 set June 20. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 109 points, or 0.7 percent, to 16,936. The Nasdaq composite climbed 36 points, or 0.8 percent, to 4,445.



GM recalls 8.2M cars

Europe's antitrust chief said on Monday he could investigate Google's YouTube if he saw any attempt by the company to abuse its dominant position in online video searching. The comments by European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia came as he wraps up a separate case against Google, the world's most popular search engine, which was triggered by complaints from Microsoft and others.

Evercore Group indicated that it thinks the social networks domestic user growth could best its first quarter tally, reassuring skittish investors worried that the social company didn’t have the mojo left to attract more eyeballs to its service.



This morning GoPro went public, spiking sharply in early trading. Priced at the upper end of its range, $24 per share, GoPro quickly traded higher, reaching nearly $33 per share, according to a Google Finance chart . By pricing high, and enjoying a pop, GoPro could further loosen the IPO market by demonstrating that investors have a healthy appetite for shares of quickly growing firms.

General Motors Chief Executive Mary Barra said on Thursday that more recalls are possible, as the Number 1 U.S. automaker continues to look at data--and take action if necessary. Asked if GM had fired everyone it was going to fire, in connection to the recall for older model Chevrolet Cobalt and other GM small cars with faulty ignition switches, Barra said in a television interview with NBC, "Yes, I believe we have. We've addressed the issue."



Google has begun removing some search results to comply with a European Union ruling upholding citizens' right to have objectionable personal information about them hidden in search engines. The so-called "right to be forgotten" was upheld by Europe's top court on May 13th, when it ordered Google to remove a link to a 15-year-old newspaper article about a Spanish man's bankruptcy.

This morning the United States Supreme Court ruled against Aereo, a startup that employed myriad, tiny antennas to bring broadcast television to consumers digitally, saying that it operates in violation of the Copyright Act. The startup, which previously stated that it had no ‘Plan B’ in the case of loss , is troubled. CBS is up more than 4% today, as are other parent companies of broadcast networks. Each stock has a similar surge in its price coinciding with the ruling’s timing.

A senior Standard & Poor’s official said on Tuesday that Euro zone countries still have much work to do to cut debt and boost growth and their credit ratings are unlikely to rise until they get their economies into better shape. Moritz Kraemer, S&P's head of sovereign ratings for Europe, Middle East and Africa, told Reuters in an interview that he saw a "calm period ahead" for ratings actions in Europe. On the sidelines of a conference in London, Kraemer said, "Much of the homework still needs to be done. The over-indebtedness in a very low inflation environment poses huge risks to the growth outlook for the euro zone,"



Google kicks off its big annual developers conference later this week. What will the tech titan share? The company's I/O conference starts Wednesday, and the big question is what will Google talk about during its keynote. Smartwatches are likely to be a big topic, as the company has already confirmed it has created the Android Wear operating system for use in watches. More details may emerge. Meanwhile, home automation could surface during Google's keynote.

Software maker Oracle is buying Micros Systems Inc., which provides software and hardware to the hospitality and retail industries, for about $5.3 billion. Oracle said Monday that it will pay $68 per Micros share, a 3 percent premium to the company's $65.77 Friday closing price. Shares of Micros gained $1.43, or 2.2 percent, to $67.20 in premarket trading Monday. Oracle said the acquisition will extend its offerings by combining Micros' industry-specific applications with its business applications, technologies and cloud portfolio.
